Panayiotis Kokoras is a composer and computer music innovator. For information about his work, visit www.panayiotiskokoras.com.

Tibbetts: How long have you composed, and what made you decide to become a composer?

Kokoras: I started classical guitar lessons at the age of 12. Soon after I started to compose, probably because is was easier for me to make my own songs than to merely imitate others. I wouldn't say I decided, it was something natural that I didn't think about at all.

Tibbetts: What inspires you?

Kokoras: Every sound.

Tibbetts: Of all you have done, what do you consider your best work, and why?

Kokoras: Usually, I feel more comfortable with my most recent pieces. They get closer to an absolute personal and original musical thought and expression.

Tibbetts: What is your 'typical day' like?

Kokoras: Well, the target is to compose all day long but some times I go out to teach, shop, eat, meet, etc.

Tibbetts: Do you have any words of wisdom to offer to aspiring composers and musicians?

Kokoras: Composition is like a sieve, the thinner the better, until only one grain remains; yours.
