Yes, you read that right; I'd never heard of music for that combination of instruments, but I wanted to try it. I love the sound, although balance is a challenge. The tuba overwhelms the harpsichord. It might be best if the harpsichord is amplified in performance. But still, there's something nice about the precise, metallic quality of the harpsichord juxtaposed against the warm openness of the tuba. The excellent recording above was made by Tyler Woodbury, a tuba player working in the Pioneer Valley.
