Emily Kaplan Summer 2018 Recordings

In the summer of 2018, flutist Emily Kaplan and I collaborated on a series of recordings. We tackled four pieces:
1. Orange Dawn by Ian Clarke (listen)
2. Ballade by Frank Martin (listen)
3. Earth by Takatsugu Muramatsu (listen)
4. Flute Sonata op. 167 ("Undine") by Carl Reinecke (listen)

This was an ambitious project. In their own ways, these are all difficult pieces. For example, the "Ballade" is technically and rhythmically challenging, and the Reinecke has an infamously hard piano part. These recordings involved many hours of preparation and rehearsals, and when we pulled it off we were both pleased and relieved.

These audio recordings are finished, but their accompanying videos are not. As of this writing (February 4, 2021), three out of four of these videos still need to be edited (and I'm working on it). However, the video for Earth is finished. Emily and I reached out to Maruki, the pixel artist associated with the game development company Lost Alloy, and Maruki animated this lovely video.

I'm very grateful to Emily for collaborating with me on these recordings, which pushed me to the edge of my abilities.
