This was a goofy college project by a friend of mine. He and his girlfriend were playing around with puppets and filmed it for a lark. Then he asked me if I wanted to make some music for it. I said sure. I composed the score as sheet music. Very carefully, I wrote and developed two leitmotifs (one for the puppets and another for their fear of heights). In general, I treated this as seriously as any commission. I recorded it on a grand piano and synced it precisely to the action of the puppets. And the result was a short film that created lovable characters out of almost nothing. I love this because it demonstrates how you don't need a lot of resources to tell a story. Forget a budget; with almost no materials, you can make an emotional experience.
