Preludes At Orchard Covenant
From summer 2016 to summer 2020, I worked at Orchard Covenant Church in Springfield, Massachusetts. I accompanied the choir and performed the hymns with organist June Foster (who I also worked with on Hope That Lasts).
I also played background music for the prelude, postlude, and communions, improvising musical medleys that incorporated music from that day's service. The preludes were intended to get people into a meditative, worshipful mood. They might also make the audience feel excited, melancholy, or whatever else seemed appropriate for the current message.
I adored this work. I put a lot of energy, thought, and feeling into these fantasies, pushing myself to make the best music I could. In June 2019, I began recording myself, which helped me stay focused. For some reason, knowing I was being recorded incentivized me to play better. On my drive home each week I'd listen to the recording and evaluate how I could improve. Listed below are the recordings I have in my possession from this time.
