Ben Tibbetts Studio      Home    Services    Archive    Students    About    Contact    Now    Store    Subscribe UMass Recitals Fall 2018 to Spring 2020 From fall of 2016 to spring of 2020, I was a piano accompanist for the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Over the course of four years, I accompanied hundreds of music students in their studio classes, lessons, recitals, and recordings, and rehearsed with them outside of those performances. It was a privilege to work with the UMass faculty, and I'm very proud of the work I did with these students. This experience profoundly changed how I approach music performance. I gleaned many insights from lessons with professors and students. These insights ranged from the practical to the artistic, and from the general to the esoteric. The interactions were generally very collaborative. When I got good advice, I took it; and when I had advice to give, I passed it on. I tried to guide my collaborators respectfully and I allowed them to guide me. I pushed myself to play the piano as well as I could. I played up to twelve hours a day and sought out help when needed from more experienced performers. As a result, I improved immensely. I'm grateful to have enjoyed this period of musical growth. To the faculty, staff, and students who welcomed me into this supportive community: thank you. These are recordings of most of the recitals I was involved in from fall 2018 to spring 2020.
