He painted all day long and people occasionally floated in, walked around the space, and looked at his work. He was very friendly, and he was available to chat if anybody wanted to. Although he worked alone, he maintained a strong, direct connection to his audience. He talked with them, learned their stories, and empathized with them; and they did the same with him. I bet it helped him sell paintings, and it looked like a pleasant way to work. Ever since I've daydreamed about having a situation like that in my own life. I considered setting up a live stream, composing or doing other work while people watched and conversed in the chat. I haven't set that up yet, but I might someday. In the meantime, I'm experimenting with recording myself while I work. This seems to make me more comfortable with that process while still allowing me to edit out something if necessary (like if I accidentally show something on the screen that I shouldn't). I think I like it. Being watched while I work keeps me focused. I also enjoy explaining what I'm doing in real time, because it clarifies my thinking and reveals moments when I'm not quite sure what I'm doing (which is very useful). I'm calling these little videos "work logs", and they're currently only available to subscribers. I'm not releasing them to the public yet because they're still a kind of work in progress.
