I think that's not commonly appreciated. People talk about the web like it's immortal. "Be careful what you post on the Internet, because it'll last forever." I don't think that's true at all. The evidence points the other way. A lot of websites that used to be gigantic can no longer be accessed. Geocities, for example, no longer exists outside of piecemeal archives by users who wanted to preserve that history. The same thing will happen with Facebook, Twitter, etc. The GMC forums used to be at gmc.yoyogames.com (and another URL before that). Then it was archived, and then actually deleted by Yoyogames. I used to be a regular on that forum. I ran a thread where people requested original MIDI files for their games. I would compose whatever they wanted. I followed my own time line, but basically worked as a freelance volunteer to support amateur developers. From about 2007 to 2011, I did this for fun and experience. There were a few downsides. I worked for free and wrote a lot of music for games that were never finished. Sometimes I never even heard back from the developers as to whether they liked my music or not. So the quality of the relationships on that forum weren't great, for me anyway (although one connection did lead to the Chaos Weapon commission). Nevertheless I enjoyed myself there and I regret that those forums are no longer available. In terms of quality, these MIDI files are a mixed bag. Some of them are not bad. I like the complex rhythmic experiments I hear in many of these tracks. This collection is like the juvenilia page. Most of it was composed before I had much formal training. It doesn't reflect the quality I would expect of my music now. Still, it's fun and nostalgic for me to listen to these pieces. They bring me back to a time when it was exciting just to make a connection with somebody online.
